Super Blood Wolf Moon

Tonight there was a total lunar eclipse.  Not only that, it was a super moon, meaning the moon is closer to Earth than normal, and it's a wolf moon, the first full moon of the year.  The moon turns red when it is fully eclipsed, so it's a super blood wolf moon.  Totality occurred shortly after 9:00pm, so we told the kids they could stay up late and watch (no school tomorrow).  Together with Jarom and Sam Oyler, they were monkeying around outside, howling, shrieking, and performing some "ceremony" involving an ice chunk and a large metal tin Kent purchased at a garage sale.  I couldn't see the ceremony, so was only able to document the participants before it actually started.  It was cold and they weren't adequately clothed, but before totality, they came in and put on more clothes, got some blankets, hats, and gloves, and then sat out watching.  They were incredibly noisy, so I went and watched from the other side of the house.  I'm certain neighbors three culdesacs down could hear them.  It's always exciting to see celestial phenomena.

I didn't even try to get a picture of the moon.
But here is someone else's.
