Collin's Funeral

Kent and I attended the funeral of Jonathan and Laurie Russell's son today. Collin was only 23. He accidentally overdosed by taking too much Immodium which contains an opiate, but also medication that can slow your breathing to dangerously low levels.  It was much too soon.  The funeral was both incredibly sad and incredibly sweet.  Laurie and Jonathan both spoke, as well as Collin's siblings Emma, Dallin, and Jenna, and a best friend who shared memories from school friends.

Daniel Beck, a local musician and Laurie's cousin, sang a song called "Sometime We'll Understand." I loved the lyrics which were pertinent for the occasion, but also for any of life's challenges.

Not now, but in coming years,
It may not be when we demand
We'll read the meaning of our tears,
And there, sometime, we'll understand
Why what we long for most of all
Eludes our open pleading hand
Why ever silence meets our call.
Somewhere, sometime, we'll understand.
So trust in God through all the days;
Fear not, for he doth hold thy hand;
Though dark thy way, still sing and praise,
Sometime, sometime we'll understand.

Sometime, we'll fall on bended knee
And feel there, graven on his hand
Sometime with tearless eyes we'll see
What here, we could not understand.
So trust in God through all thy days;
Fear not, for he doth hold thy hand;
Though dark thy way, still sing and praise,
Sometime, sometime we'll understand.

And while the occasion was so sad, it was lovely to visit with family members we don't see often, to honor Collin's life, and to mourn with the Russell family.  We love them, and we are grateful for the great plan of happiness that offers the peaceful assurance that we will be with those we love again.

Our floral contribution

Jenna, Jonathan, Laurie, Emma, Isaac, Dallin
