Fakesgiving on Halloween

So how do you property celebrate Halloween on a Sunday? You have Thanksgiving! Or Fakesgiving as the case may be. Mom enters the MTC on November 8th and will be in California by Thanksgiving, and as we were not going to be trick-or-treating tonight, we decided to hold Thanksgiving early. Lots of my holiday preparations and activity yesterday was for today, not Halloween, but we can celebrate two holidays on the same day, can’t we? We made all the delicious food, gathered at Christopher and Tysen’s, ate, then played games. It was wonderful to celebrate together and be with Mom in these last few short days before she becomes a missionary and leaves us.

Pie Making for "Fakesgiving"

Although it is still October, we are celebrating Thanksgiving (Fakesgiving) tomorrow because Mom will be in California on actual Thanksgiving and we wanted one last big celebration before she goes. So our Halloween will be Thanksgiving.

Today we made pie, and for ease of child care, we did it at Mikayla’s house. Thea, Freya, and Kal were all very keen to help, and as we were only making a couple, we pulled chairs up to the counter and had them help. They dumped flour and salt and then “helped” me roll out dough. It took longer than it would have normally, but they were all delighted to be included, and as I love them, I was happy to have them be involved. The pie turned out great, so their help must have been really helpful.

Really Bad Ultimate Pictures

Kent and I went to one of Brandt's Ultimate Frisbee games tonight. He played well. I cheered loudly and tried to take pictures. All of them are really bad.

One good thing about these pictures--
in looking at them, Brandt realized that he doesn't stand up straight
and when he runs, he looks like Big Foot.
He's making an effort to stand with his chest thrust out, not with a curved back.

A catch!

Now he needs to throw

He's doing some fancy footwork in this one.

The one and only picture that was even close to being in focus
and Brandt has his back to me.

Shopping with Mom

I was on call today and didn't get called. Yay!! I called Mom and asked what I could do to help with her mission preparations, and suggested we go shopping. Mikayla was also available, so the three of us headed to Salt Lake this afternoon to see if we could find some clothing. Mom had a list and we wanted to make a significant dent in the things she still needs.

While we didn't have as much success on the clothing front as we had hoped, we did find Mom a great dress, as well as getting all of her bedding. We were going to buy her pillows, but from the angle she tried, she decided she didn't like the ones we passed. She'll look elsewhere.

It was wonderful to have a day off and to be with Mom and Mikayla. I don't get to spend nearly enough time with them, and our time with Mom is obviously short. I love them both so much!

A Miracle

This morning I was on call for work, and while waiting, decided I would run a quick errand down to the library to return some books and turn in our ballots. After I was in the car, Kent, who was in the garage, asked where I was going and volunteered to go later because he was headed in that direction for something else and could easily drop things off. I gathered up the books, exited the car, and went back into the house, pushing the garage door closer as I went in. I heard the garage door closing as I went in.

Two minutes later, I went to throw something away and opened the door to the garage. I was mystified when I saw the garage door open, the BMW parked, but no Mini.

"Where's the car?" I asked. Looking out the garage towards the Passmore's house, I saw nothing but Dan's boat parked across the street. I walked to the end of the garage and, scanning the culdesac, saw this:

The Mini was in the Oyler's side yard!

Apparently, when I got out of the car, I failed to pull the parking brake. The car must have begun to roll, stopping the garage door from closing, then sending the car rolling down the driveway. Miraculously, the car missed both Dan's boat and the brick mailbox, coming to rest in the Oyler's yard, having received no damage and having done none either. Truly, it is a miracle that it turned out as it did, considering the path the car took to end up where it did. We are certain an angel was at the wheel, steering the car away from harm to itself and others. I was glad it was late enough in the morning that all the children had gone off to school and that no one was around. We were seriously blessed.

I posted this picture on Instagram and Facebook and got some very funny responses.

Wow. When I do stuff like that, terrrible things happen- like the time my friend and I went on a picnic with four toddlers in my father in law's old truck. We loaded the three year old olds in the truck and went back for the babies. While I was getting Perry, David climbed from the back seat to the front and shifted the truck into neutral. We were on a hill and my friend and I have never run that fast again in our lives.

Woow that’s crazy. I wish I’d have seen it over there or better yet watch it go. That’s funny! I was at the temple though so I guess that’s why I didn’t see either but then I’m probably the least unobservant neighbor you will ever have! Don’t expect m…

oh no!! ha ha ha! when i lived in north carolina our drive, was on a slope and a forrest across the street from us. we were carrying in groceries, everyone got an armful of groceries headed in the house, put things on the table walked outside.... the car was gone.... it had rolled straight down the hill into the forest. lol had to move bushes and small trees out of the way to even get in. it had a few scratches but all was good. im glad nothing and no one got damaged. but oh dear how funny.
