Fall Break in Carpinteria, Day 4

Today was pretty much a repeat of yesterday. We got up and had breakfast, including pancakes from the super cook pancake maker. We packed lunch stuff, lots of extra drinks, bought a beach umbrella and some chairs, then headed out for fun in the sun.

Many of us boogie boarded. Some of us sat in the sun or shade. Some of us dug in the sand. We drew attention to ourselves, mostly because we were a large group all in wetsuits, in the water for really a long time. But it was wonderful. We got rolled in the waves, but we rode lots of party waves and talked as we bobbed in the water waiting for the next wave. The boys all left the beach to return to the hotel to watch a BYU football game, but I called and told them to come back. Football will be there next week, but we won't be at the beach next week. I sounded bossy but didn't really care. I didn't want our beach time wasted. The littles got tired and Mom and Kent took them back to the hotel, but it was glorious to be on the beach.

We went for Mexican food for dinner, then Brandt went with the DeMartinis to Santa Barbara for ice cream. When little people were asleep, we again met in the lobby for games, this time with Brandt, Luke, Ava, and Collin as well as the adults. We laughed and laughed as we played and talked and were together without worrying about stuff.

That's been one of the great things about being away. Real, everyday life stuff has been put on hold and we've just been able to play and be together. We've got work and stressors and challenges waiting at home, and Mom's imminent departure looming, but all that can wait while we spend this time as a family.

That's Makenna getting rolled.

I was getting rolled.

Party wave!
