Pool Outdoor Movie Night

We had such a good time last year at pool outdoor movie night, we wanted to make sure to do it again this year. How fun is it to watch a shark movie while bobbing in the water at night?

Super fun!!

I didn't make the fun shark themed treats I was going to make (working takes it out of me), but we did have popcorn and brownies and watched Jaws. The kids delighted in swimming under water and pinching the adult legs, trying to startle us. It worked. The shark was ridiculous looking, but it was exciting and better than last year's movie The Meg

We will make this a yearly tradition, but will perhaps veer away from shark movies in future.

Weekend Not Far Away

A couple weeks ago, Kent helped the Heiners unload a pallet of noise dampening insulation from a large truck. The truck would have been able to get up the driveway, but not back down, so they had to think of an alternative. Kent assisted. He really thought nothing of it, just one of those things that he does all the time, but the Heiners were apparently very grateful. Lauri texted me last week and invited us to use their cabin this weekend as a thank you for Kent's assistance. She said the cabin had six bedrooms, so if we wanted to invite someone to come stay with us, we certainly could. We readily accepted the invitation, and invited Barri to join us. We asked David, Sharon, and Micah who eagerly agreed to come, and Lee and Cammie, who politely declined. As there were so many bedrooms, we also invited my mom.

Upon arrival at the "cabin," we immediately discovered that the thank you was not really commensurate with the service. The house is huge, on five levels, beautifully finished. The view is terrific and we ate out on the deck several meals. There is a loft that sleeps seven on beds, in addition to the six bedrooms, and a basement rec room with ping pong table, basketball game, dodgeballs, and little wheeled platforms you can slide around the room on. They have archery stuff we used, a full kitchen, and wildlife that wanders through the yard. We saw several groups of wild turkeys, including a mother and her baby.

I took a half day off of work, so we left the house about 1:30 and drove to Midway. The cabin is almost at the very top of the road, with a view over practically the whole valley. We stayed until Sunday afternoon and made sure we were not pressed to do anything. We played lots of board games, ate delicious food, watched two Disney Camp Rock movies, and talked and laughed. We played ping pong, had a basketball shoot off, and took several ATV rides. While we hardly left the house, it was so relaxing to be together and not do much, we all loved it.

We all said to Kent, "Please do something nice for the Heiners again."

Our first ATV ride.
Below is the road we were climbing.
Dusty good fun!

Lily Lusvardi has been in town this week.
She came to the cabin with us and stayed Friday night.

Brandt took this picture of our Sunday morning breakfast preparations.

Canoeing 2020

We spent the best day of the summer (and maybe the year) canoeing. I just love to canoe. I think I say that every year. Truly though, I just love it. As in years past, we went to Payson Lake with DeMartinis and floated, oared, and swam around. The water wasn't too cold, the sun wasn't too hot, and the air was perfectly piney fragranced. In addition to canoes, we rented stand-up paddleboards, which were a big hit. All was absolutely fantastic. As an added boost, I got paid to canoe this year! In my new position, I get paid vacation, so today, as I oared around the lake, I made $26.50 an hour. Does it get any better than that? I suppose it could have been a bit less crowded, but there was enough beach for everyone, and the lake is big enough that we weren't exactly canoeing into each other.

Mr. Kal came out on the SUP with me.
He was happy to dangle hands and feet in the water.
While he moved around and nearly toppled me off the board, I managed to maintain balance.

Ava and I were out in a canoe.
As Sharae, Collin, and Eugene paddled towards us, I took their picture.
Then I took a picture of Mikayla and Cora on the SUP.
Then Brandt and Luke, in a canoe, rammed us so hard,
they drove themselves up and over the edge of the canoe and swamped us.
Ava and I had to swim back to shore,
while Eugene and Sharae towed our canoe.
