Breakfast in Bed for a Birthday Boy

Today is Kent's birthday.  He is 58 today.  Blythe wanted to make him breakfast in bed, so we were informed by the children that we were to remain in bed, and when we heard a gong, we were to make ourselves comfortable as there would be a show too.  How lucky are we?!

Fairly lucky.  When Brandt proudly carried in the breakfast tray, he presented us with toast and very runny, undercooked scrambled eggs.  While this was a super great effort on the kids' part, the eggs really were inedible, especially for the birthday boy who likes his eggs tight.  Kent asked if I could go down and cook the eggs just a bit more, and Brandt, ever accommodating to his dear old dad said yes.  I carried down the tray and spent a couple of minutes firming up the eggs and rewarming the toast.

Back in the bedroom, I was met by a very displeased Blythe.  She gave me such a scowl.  She felt that her efforts were not appreciated and that I had no business getting involved in her breakfast production.  She had strong, impassioned words for me and Kent, then gave him a further earful in the bathroom during a "private chat."  Boy, howdy did we blow it with her.  Kent, a true diplomat without any of the privileges associated with the job, smoothed things over by agreeing to climb back in bed and allow Blythe to make a breakfast treat of her own creation without ANY input from us.

Brandt and I ate the eggs on toast (Kent forebore in deference to Blythe), and then we all enjoyed Blythe's treat, a melange of cereal, graham crackers, pretzel rods, chocolate covered pretzels, peanuts in the shell, marshmallows, small chocolate bars, and Wheat Thins, all with a sprinkling of powdered sugar.  Delish!  Our high praise of Blythe's creative combination won her forgiveness and allowed Kent to go off to work on a better note.

As today is also Martin Luther King Day, the kids were out of school.  For further birthday celebrating, we met Kent, Lee, Cammie, and Aaron for lunch at Bangkok Grill.  We invited Grandma Sue over to join us for dinner (taco salad at the birthday boy's request), and then had Lee and Cammie, and Craig come have chocolate mousse for dessert.  It wasn't a tremendously exciting birthday, but Kent didn't want much fanfare and was absolutely delighted with the mousse (dark chocolate Toblerone!).

And so happy birthday to Kent, our bestest dad, finest husband, and the kindest person I know.  Kent will do anything for anyone, even if it is super, super inconvenient.  He is a friend to all and a great example of patience.  We love him lots and lots and lots and lots.  And for some reason, I have no picture of Kent for his birthday post.  I need to do better.

Undercooked eggs, oozing liquid.

The recooked eggs and toast, presenting so nicely by the children.
Notice how we get a choice of butter, cookie butter or mixed berry honey to go with the toast?
Aren't we just spoiled.

Breakfast treat mix.
Very creative.
