Memorial Day Weekend, Part 1

It's Memorial Day weekend, and I'm happy to report, we are honoring our kindred dead by making lots of cemetery visits.  We've planned to do cemeteries Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  For the past several years, we have gone to Heber Valley Camp on Memorial Day, but this year we aren't, so we're going to focus on family, living and dead.

Today we headed north to the Wasatch Lawn and Murray City cemeteries.  We had tickets to a play in Sandy, and so we combined our cemetery-ing with a cultural event.  We went to see Grandma and Grandpa Barrus, as well as Aunt Marilyn and Uncle John at Wasatch Lawn.  My dear friend, Christine Baird, is also buried at Wastach Lawn, so I found her grave and left some flowers.

At Murray City, we left flowers for Kent's great-grandparents, and then wanted to leave flowers for Jonathan and Laurie's son Collin.  We weren't exactly sure where he was buried as there wasn't a headstone yet, so we called them.  They came over and we were able to visit with them for a bit.  Laurie was recently diagnosed with cancer, and we were glad to talk and offer support and love, while remembering Collin, too.  I wish we had taken a picture together.

For Christmas, I bought us tickets to two shows at the Hale Center Theater in Sandy.  Matilda was the first one.  It's based on Roald Dahl's book and is a delightfully funny musical I knew the kids would enjoy.  It was a great production; the girl who played Matilda did a wonderful job, and the man who played Miss Trunchbull was hilarious.  We all enjoyed it.
