The Zoo was a Zoo!

It's spring break, and we haven't gone anywhere. The weather hasn't been brilliant, so we've been inside a lot. But we did plan to make a trip to the zoo. It was supposed to be nice out, Mikayla was up for an outing with her little people, and we figured, if we were enough adults/bigger people, we wouldn't lose anyone. So Eugene and Sharae and their crew joined Mikayla and her posse and me and the kids at the zoo.

Upon arrival, it was clear that we were not the only people who thought a zoo excursion was a good idea today. Truly, the zoo was a zoo. It felt like there were thousands and thousands of other people fighting to see the same dozen animals. At every exhibit we had to either wait to get close enough to see something, or elbow our way through. Cora and Kal were both assigned a person of their own--I had Cora, Brandt and Luke had Kal--and we managed to keep them in sight. They are both runners. We did see pretty much everything we wanted to see, especially the baby giraffe, and we rode the carousel. We waited in line at least 30 minutes, so we opted not to wait an additional 30 minutes for the train. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone was really disappointed because everyone was tired.

Please don't look at the lion, Cora.
Just don't look.

It's an "Elphie!"

Luke showed Brandt a youtube video of guys challenging friends to do "silly salmon."
When one of them says, "Silly salmon," the other has to throw himself into water,
with hands at their sides, flailing like a salmon trying to swim upstream.
So while the boys did not throw themselves into any water,
Brandt did throw himself onto this pile of snow.
Why?
Good question.

While playing at this playground, Luke once again said, "Brandt--Silly salmon!"
Brandt threw himself, flailing, into the bark and thrashed around.
A concerned woman came up to him and said, "Are you okay? Are you having a seizure."
Eyeroll.
I scolded him for being so ridiculous and asked him not to do it again.

You might assume that Kal is preparing to do "silly salmon" into this pile of snow.
You would be wrong.
He is stomping the snow.
In fact, he stomped every bit of snow we passed all throughout the zoo.

While Cora began on this gorilla and Eugene intended on standing next to her,
she got scared and went to sit on a bench.

That's a much more relaxed face.

Those would be the twins, appearing to have been left, all alone, in the middle of the walkway.
They weren't.
We were close.
Ish.

All of us together.
One of these things is not like the others.
Can you spot the pouter?

Before leaving Salt Lake, we stopped at a delicious little gelato place and had a tasty treat. Everyone loved it! Cora ate her whole bowl and wanted more. Me, too. It was a great spring break outing, but I think the next time we go to the zoo, it won't be over a holiday.

The obligatory selfie taken by Brandt because he had my phone.
Every time.
Without fail.
