Zote

Email sent to my mother and siblings:

This morning, Brandt came downstairs after taking a shower and getting ready for church.  He had his pants hiked up a bit, several inches above his actual waist.  Kent said, "Maybe loosen up your belt a bit so your pants can sit a little further down," and I said, "Yeah. You look like a zote."  

This got us thinking about where "zote" comes from, so I looked it up.  Turns out, it's Spanish and means a numbskull or an oaf.  BUT, it is a synonym for, get this, bobo!  Dad teased all the time that he spoke Japanese ("nayato nayato"), but in reality, he spoke Spanish.  

And as a side note, "nayato" isn't Japanese at all.  It's Pali.  Pali, according to Wikipedia,  or "Magadhan is a Middle Indo-Aryan liturgical language native to the Indian subcontinent. It is widely studied because it is the language of the Pāli Canon or Tipiṭaka, and is the sacred language of some religious texts of Hinduism and all texts of Theravāda Buddhism." In Pali, "nayato" means "by implication; inferentially."
