Sundance Excursion

When discussing what we might do with the Boscos, I suggested we go up to Sundance, take the ski lift up to see the view, maybe hike to Stewart Falls, maybe have lunch at the Grill. When we actually talked about options with Rosemary and Tom, hiking was quickly crossed off the list. Lunch at the Grill would be expensive, and the ski lift sounded scary to Rosemary, but Sundance sounded great.

So, we decided to picnic at Sundance, the kids could run around, and we'd be in the cooler mountain air. Up the canyon we went, picnic packed. We found two picnic tables under a tree and had lunch. The kids were good; we only had to chase down Kal once and Cora only threw one small tantrum. She wanted to ride the ski lift and was mad we weren't going to do it.

She needn't have fussed. Rosemary worked up her courage and we decided to take the ski lift up to see the view. Mikayla and I each strapped a baby to our chests, and got on the lift.

They only allow four people on a ski lift bench and while I was going to go with Mikayla, Cora, and Kal to help keep small bodies on the lift, that would have been,  technically, six people, and they wouldn't let us do it. I do count Freya and Thea as people, but for the purpose of weight distribution on the ski lift, having them strapped to me and Mikayla made no greater difference than if we were wearing skis and boots and winter coats. But having me with Mikayla to help with squirmy Kal and Cora, it would have made a huge difference. Mikayla had to get off as soon as she could because Kal was going to slide off the back of the bench. Mom got off to help her, and they divided up Kal and Cora so they could each hold on to one of them with both hands.

Rosemary didn't make it whole way. She is afraid of heights, and being up high, above the ground with legs dangling free was all a bit much for her. A couple of times Tom said, "Look at that," and Rosemary said, "No! No looking!" She clung to his arm until the first spot she could get off, then did.

A few of us made it all the way to the top. Tom, Brick, Brandt, Blythe, Freya, and I all went up. We talked and enjoyed the view, and Freya took a nap. We didn't linger long because half our group was at the bottom waiting for us, but you can only go so fast, so we took pleasure in the breeze, trees, and company.

Next time the Boscos come, we need to find a less scary activity.
