Ravioli and Pictures

Years ago, when Dad was still alive and Rosemary came to visit, we made ravioli. It was delicious! We were talking about that visit and how much fun it had been, and I asked Rosemary if she would be willing to make it again, with help, of course.  She agreed, and so today, after early afternoon swimming, we made ravioli.  Eugene and his crew, plus Ava, helped roll pasta dough, fill the sheets, and crimp edges.  We made over 150 ravioli!  Then we cooked and ate, enjoying lovely pasta with homemade sauce and meatballs.  It was a lot of work, but many hands make the project go smoother and quicker, and the visiting while eating was stellar.

In addition to eating, we also looked through old photos Rosemary brought from Big Rosemary's.  Big Rosemary is my great aunt, my Grandma Doris' sister.  She had wonderful family photos that Rosemary felt we should have.  There were great pictures of my grandmother, her parents and siblings, some aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a fair number of people we couldn't identify.  They are so evocative and create such a feeling of time and place.  It was wonderful to see them and talk about those people and imagine what their lives were like.  It was also fun to see family resemblance between those ancestors and us, their living descendants.  Crew looks just like my grandmother's brother, Luke, and Freya looks like Grandma Doris.  Those picture create a connection and sense of family, even though we haven't met most of the people in the pictures.
