Memorial Day Weekend

We are headed to Heber Valley Camp in the morning, so yesterday and today we have done our memorializing and cemetery visiting.  Yesterday morning, we made a trip to Salt Lake to visit the Murray City cemetery and Wasatch Lawn cemetery.  Before we left, Kent printed of Family Tree some stories of those ancestors' graves we were going to see.  We read the stories in the car about Grandma and Grandpa Barrus, and Great-Grandpa Sanders.  It was fun to have some sense of the person we were "seeing."  I think the kids liked it.  I know I did.  This year, Kent's cousin Diana made pictures of those who were buried at the plots we visited.  I thought it was a wonderful touch.

This afternoon and evening, we did more cemetery visiting.  Before dinner, we went up to East Lawn to see Grandpa De, Grandma Hare, and Jeff.  Mikayla had bought donuts, so we all had a donut in Dad's honor, then talked while the children ran around.  We were practically all of us there, which I like.  It's nice to be at the cemetery with everyone, sitting in the cool shade, remembering Dad and being together as I know he would love.  It's a great way to honor him.

That's Lyla playing in the dirt just off the hill where Dad is.

Last week, David and Sharon invited us to barbecue with them tomorrow, but as we are going to be in Heber, we suggested we get together this evening for dinner and cemetery visiting.  We volunteered to host as we are close to the cemetery.  Lots of Dave's family came, and after eating and dessert (tutti fruitti ice cream--a Barrus family favorite), we returned to the cemetery to visit George and Merlynn.  To honor George, we took a family picture which will appear in the 2018 Barrus Family Photobook.  It was a privilege and a delight to honor our family members.
