Final Band Concerts

Brandt had two final band concerts, back to back, this week.  Centennial had their end of year concert, and because Brandt has been participating in honor band, he got to perform with them.  They played two pieces, the Theme from Jurassic Park and the Bare Necessities.  Brandt particularly liked the Jurassic Park piece.  He has played the five most known notes over and over and over and over and over and over and over again on the piano for several weeks now.  He's trying to insure I'll lose my mind and have to be institutionalized.  There was a brief three or four measures when the trombones had the melody, and that was very exciting.  Unfortunately, because he plays the trombone, he's always in the back and we can't see much more than his tapping foot, if we're lucky.  Even these pictures I took at the end of the concert when he stood up aren't brilliant, because the camera was focusing on the bespectacled clarinetist the row in front of him.  At least the picture proves we were there.  He has become good buddies with David Harrison, his fellow trombonist to the right of him, as they have blarted next to each other all year.

The Rock Canyon band and orchestra had their final concert tonight.  It started at 6:00, and although the band played three numbers and the orchestra played four, it was over by 6:20.  Short and sweet.  Just the way we like them!  I think we waited before it began longer than the actual concert.  But the band did well.  I'm amazed at how much they learn in only a year of played twice a week.  I imagine Brandt would be a bit better if he practiced more regularly, but he does like it, so I guess that's okay.  Kent would say it's wonderful.  He will continue with band next year at Centennial, and I'll work at getting him to practice a bit more when I work up enough energy to fight him about it every time.  Sigh.

The three numbers the band played were Ode to Joy, Star Wars Theme, and Midnight Madness.  The trombones had a bit of the melody in the Star Wars piece, which is always exciting, and from where we were sitting and what we could tell, Brandt played all the right notes.  Once again, we couldn't really see him at all during the concert.  Ah well!

Brandt is standing in the back, listening while the orchestra plays.
The guy in the foreground doesn't seem to like what he's hearing.
As I had nothing to do with either group, I can say the band sounded better than the orchestra.
Just.
