Field Trip Friday #86--TITANOBOA

The Bean Museum has a temporary exhibit called Titanoboa, with a replica of the biggest snake ever discovered.  The snake's fossilized bones were found in a mine pit in Columbia.  It was a whopping 48 feet long and could swallow crocodiles whole.  Mikayla had been with her kids on a field trip with Brick's pre-school class, and she told me we had to go.

The exhibit was really well done, with lots of information about anacondas and other constrictors as well as about this ENORMOUS snake specifically.  Although the replica was made of foam, it was freaky to think about a snake being as big as this one was.  I can't imagine coming upon something so huge, and I'm glad they are extinct.  Not that I go wandering through swamps with any regularity, but still.  The kids thought it was cool, and because Brick was over hanging out with me this afternoon, he came with us, too.  Brandt and Blythe were good to chase after him.

We finished off our field trip with a trip to the Creamery.  It was nice enough that we sat outside and ate our ice cream, ruining our dinner.
