Mawidge

We've had two weddings in the family over the past ten days.  How exciting is that!  SUPER exciting.  On July 2, Joel and Alexandra were married in Boston.  We didn't go to the wedding as Boston is on the other side of the country.  There was, however, a celebration for them here, in Provo, at the library, on the 9th.  We wouldn't have missed that.

Funny story about the open house.  Brenda had ordered food from BYU Catering--some sandwiches, veggie and fruit trays, brownies, cookies, and tarts, some lemonade.  On the 2nd, while in Boston, she received a call from BYU saying, "We have your food ready for pick up.  Are you coming to get it?"  She told them she was in Boston, that the event she needed the food for was the following Saturday, the 9th, and that no, she wasn't coming that day, but would be there the next week.  So on Saturday she went to pick up food at BYU around 2:00pm.  The open house was from 4-6:00pm, and she was giving herself plenty of time to collect food and have it to the library well before the start.  Well, turns out, BYU had nothing prepared.  They didn't have her order at all.  Nothing.  Well, that's not entirely true.  They did have lemonade, a couple of extra fruit trays, and some brownies they were able to give her, but no sandwiches, no veggie trays, and no fruit tarts.  They scrounged around the threw some stuff together, but without an apology and no apparent remorse.

I was on my way to the library to help set up when Brenda called in a panic.  "They don't have my order," she said, desperation in her voice.  I did a u-turn and headed for Costco.  I assured her we could get veggies and sandwiches put together before 4:00, and that if she could rally the troops to come help build, we could have food ready.  I dashed around Costco throwing food stuffs into the cart and elbowing people out of the way, then sped home.  Maureen Ogles came to help, as well as a couple and their son who are friends of Brenda's, and two Vogel cousins.  I cut veg, others made croissant sandwiches, and by 3:30 we were loading lovely trays of food into the car.  The open house when very well, we only ran out of lemonade and cups, and no one who wasn't in the know was any the wiser.  It was a lovely time to honor Joel and Alexandra who looked happy, exuding that newlywed glow.

Brandt and Blythe were relatively bored at the open house and spent most of the time in the extra food prep room entertaining themselves with mischievous behavior.  And taking lots of pictures, some of which were actually interesting.

The today, Ian and Jodi were married in the Provo City Center Temple.  It was a beautiful afternoon/evening of sacred covenant making and fun celebrating.  The sealing ceremony was very sweet though held up for over 20 minutes by a couple who was late.  Who does that?  Who makes a whole wedding party wait because you can't yourself out of the house in time to make it to the event?  Such bad form.  We gathered for lunner at the BYU Sky Room, where the meal was comped by BYU catering following the fiasco on Saturday.  Family and a couple of friends shared tender comments about the bride and groom, and then we all went to the reception, a fun affair at the Startup Building.  Ian and Jodi met at a food truck rally and talked as they waiting in line for Spud's.  They had them cater, there was a photo booth, lots of tasty treats, and a three-man band that played great music.  It was a lovely day celebrating the slightly newer bride and groom.
