Canoeing 2016

This is a picture heavy post.
You have been warned.

Today we enjoyed out annual family canoeing day.  It's one of my favorite days of the year!  I love to be with family out in nature, on the water, enjoying the fresh mountain air.  I love to breathe in the beauty of God's creations and get away from the daily routine for the day.

This year we went to Payson Lake.  Several years ago when we went to Payson Lake, there was a notice about swimmer's itch, a rash caused by an allergic reaction to a microscopic parasite that can be found in the shallow water of lakes or ponds.  Because of that warning, we didn't swim the last time we were there and we've been going to Tibble Fork for the past couple of years.  But Tibble Fork has been drained to work on the dam, so that wasn't an option.  Payson Lake it was.  The notice was still up, but we didn't see it until we'd all been in the water already, and no one seemed to care.  All the children got in the water and swam around, we all waded, we were all in the shallows, but no one was affected.  Yeah!  Although it takes longer to get there, the water is warmer, I like the trail around the lake, and it's bigger.  I think I'll suggest we go there again next year.  This year, in addition to the canoes, we also had four small and two larger kayaks the kids paddled around on.  They are super fun and were on the water non-stop from the time we arrived and hauled them down to water's edge, until the time we had to pull them out to go home.

Brandt piled a whole bunch of large rocks on the back of a kayak then paddled around.
I don't know why.

Blythe and I went out in a canoe.
Then I stopped paddling and left her to do it all.
I'm not sure she knew.

Brick and Donovan were paddling around on a kayak.
Apparently, no one was really watching them.
They got verrrrrry far from shore and then couldn't get back.
Brandt and Luke and Blake swam out to rescue them.

Brandt, in true big brother fashion, teased Blythe while she was on the kayak.
He acted like he was going to tip her off.
He wasn't, but he was convincing.
She whined then shrieked then tried to hit him with the paddle.
He probably deserved it.
