Morning Bike

Friday one of the springs on the garage door broke.  I was able to get the garage open enough for Blythe to slip under and open the house door so we could take the groceries in.  I called the garage door place and in the afternoon, a man came and fixed the door.  He replaced the springs and we were able to get the cars in the garage, but he said the springs were the wrong size and he would return on Monday with the correct ones.  He said we could open the door if we needed, like it wasn't really a big deal.

Saturday morning, Kent pulled open the garage but when he went to close it, it somehow came off the tracks and nearly fell on both cars.  Brandt came into the house and said, "Dad broke the garage door."  I didn't really believe him, but opened the door to see what was going on.  Kent was trying to hold the 350 pound door up and maneuver it back into the track.  I raced out to help, but quickly realized we were going to need more muscular help than just me.  I told the kids to go round up Tom Nelson, Scott Atkinson, and Dan Passmore.  They came over to help, but it was tricky.  The door kept going down at a weird angle so it wouldn't close; it continued to stay off the rails; it was buckling and twisting.  After much effort, we got it closed, and then determined that we wouldn't open it again until the repair guy came.  That meant that the scooter was our only transportation option, so we didn't really go anywhere Saturday afternoon/evening, or all day Sunday, except to church (we walked).

Today, we had things to do.  Brandt has become so irritated with his hair, that he cut his own bangs yesterday.  It was absolutely necessary to take action about that because I did not want him getting any further ideas about taking care of his hair.  So, this morning we climbed on our bikes and rode down to Great Clips for hair cuts.  Blythe needed an even-ing out in the back as she wants to grow hers out, and Brandt had an all around shortening.  A couple of months ago they got free slushie coupons from Sonic and have been pestering me to go get them, so I suggested we bike for cuts, then bike for a slushie.

The kids are good bikers.  The ride down was fairly easy, mostly with a slight downhill.  We made good time.  After haircuts, we stayed on the river trail over to Sonic, and again, it was easy going.  The ride back wasn't as easy because we had to climb up the hill from the river to Canyon Road, but they pedaled.  They did ask if we could stop, but I had them keep riding, reminding them that it wasn't that far and we could rest when we got home.  I do realize that they are small, their bikes are heavier than mine, and Blythe has no gears, but they are also young and healthy with lots of energy and they can do hard things.

The garage door repairman came shortly after we got home and managed to fix the door quite handily.
