Birthday Hiking

Because Blythe's birthday was on Sunday, we did not have a party party for her yesterday. Instead, we had one today. Blythe had said she wanted to have a hiking party and go to Bridal Veil Falls. This sounded like a great idea to me, and it turned out great. I got on Pinterest and found the idea to have "make your own trail mix" for the treat, and give the kids a scavenger hunt to do as the activity as we hiked. We invited eight little girls (all that would fit in Grandma Sue's car which we borrowed so I could haul people around) and drove up to Nunn's Park and the beginning of the hike. At the party, in addition to Blythe, were Lilly and Emma Bradford, Lily Lusvardi, Ellen Mason, Summer Bjarson, Lauren Wilkey, and Maggie Davidson.

It wasn't really much of a hike because the trail is paved, but the girls had a great time looking for their scavenger hunt items, and some did some real hiking once we got to the falls. There wasn't much water coming over the edge, so the rocks down which the water tumbled was not moving very quickly and there wasn't a lot, so Blythe, Ellen, Lilly, and Emma all started hiking right up the rocks towards the actual waterfall. Figuring I should stay with the group engaging in the more dangerous activity, I went up with them, leaving the other girls below to entertain themselves. They did fine and so did we hiking. When we got to the top, the girls stood under the water and got thoroughly wet. We hiked back down the actual trail.

On our way back to the car we stopped and sat on the grass, had our trail mix and some Capri Suns while Blythe opened her presents. Then I drove everyone home. It was marvelously easy and super fun, and Blythe was entirely pleased with the way it had turned out. Me too!
