Walk Like an Egyptian

Brandt has been working on an Egyptian unit at school over the past several weeks.  He's learned about their gods, their great constructions, and their history.  The culminating event of the unit was Egyptian day, which was today.  Brandt had to select a project that was due yesterday, and then today, students could come dressed up and parents were able to come to school and see all the projects.

Brandt chose to make a sphinx, and at Mikayla's suggestion, we made it out of Rice Krispie Treats.  Easy to mold, affordable, and we could eat any mistakes.  It was a perfect building material.  Although I made the RKTs, Brandt did the molding.  We printing off a picture of the Great Sphinx of Giza, and from that, he did his sculpting.  I helped when the building material wasn't sticking together like it should, but Brandt did the bulk of it.  After it had dried and hardened a bit, Brandt did some carving, creating the head and face (less nose), and the body and feet.  I realized that we had done the front legs and feet wrong, so we just pulled them off, and while I made another batch of RKTs, Brandt ate the badly constructed first feet.  As I said, perfect building material.  To make it look a bit more realistic, Brandt frosted it with sand colored frosting, another tasty building material.

I had ordered Brandt a pharaoh costume, and although he didn't get the tall staff he wanted, he did like the costume and happily wore it to school today.  It was fun to see other student's costumes and projects when we went over, and the kids were well informed.  They answered questions and told us interesting tidbits about each one.  Sixth grade is proving lots of fun!

This is a picture of the sarcophagus cover Brandt and his tablemates made.
Can you guess which section is Brandt's?
I can!
