Friday Field Trip #29--Origami at the MOA

It's Good Friday and Kent had the day off.  He and I puttered around the house working on various projects until the kids were done with school, and then Kent joined us for our Friday field trip.  Kent had been home teaching on Sunday, and the Magelbys (new to the ward) had mentioned an origami exhibit at BYU that they had found very interesting and thought our kids might like.  As we almost never ever have Kent with us on Fridays, I told the kids he got to pick where we went.  They were not thrilled (AT ALL) when we told them what we doing, and they whined pretty much from the moment we got in the car until the moment we walked into the museum.  However, once they saw that the exhibit was about, they perked right up and found it all very interesting.*  There were all sorts of fascinating creations, all out of folded paper.  I was amazed!  There was also an area where you could sit down and do origami yourself, with step-by-step instructions.  Brandt made an airplane, Blythe made a panda, and I made a balloon that actually puffed up when I blew into it.  It was a great field trip, made even better with Kent along with us.

The moose and scorpion were made with one square of paper each.

This is a pattern for something (I don't remember what) that diagrams what folds you should
make to create the thing.
The diagram is fairly complicated itself.

Watching a fascinating movie about origami.

Spheres created from paper.

Picking out a design.

We heart the Museum!

*editorial note:  It was so interesting, Brandt wanted to go back the following week and do it all again.
