Linéa

Today we went to a super fun show at BYU which was part of the second annual Off The Map Festival.  Started last year, the festival brings shows they describe as "non-traditional, innovative, international, contemporary theatre," to campus for several performances, and give the audience the chance to ask them questions after the show ends.  We saw a really fun show last year about a deep sea diver that saves the world (I didn't blog about it), with puppets and projects.  We all really liked it.

This year we saw a two person who from France called Linea.  The arts brochure described it like this:  Two dancing jugglers and 100 yards of rope!  This mix of object manipulation, dance, and juggling creates an original and poetic language and invites you into a magical world full of creativity, poetry, and humor.

The two performers, Jive and Kim, danced with varying lengths of rope, creating characters out of nothing more than circles.  They juggled and moved to wonderfully fun and upbeat music, and were flirty and silly.  The lighting was great too, creating a really funky mood.  Brandt and Blythe were absolutely enchanted with the whole performance.  It was engaging (and not too long) and a fun cultural activity.  And we went for ice cream afterwards, which is always a treat.

Dancing with rope.

They were each juggling four of these rods
and then passed them back and forth.

More dancing with rope.
