Field Trip Friday #21, on a Thursday--Kangaroo Zoo

Although today is only Thursday, we had our week's official Field Trip Friday today.  School was out early for a professional development something or other, and Blythe has a birthday party tomorrow, so we decided we would have our activity today.  Because Thursday is also vision therapy for Brandt, we opted to go to Kangaroo Zoo because it is only about ten minutes away from the eye doctor.  I hadn't planned on taking anyone other than my kids and Brick, but Tysen called right after school and asked if we wanted to go to the movie with them, so I invited them to come jump with us.  They thought that sounded fun, so we all went to jump together.

The big kids were really great with Brick.  At first, he didn't think, and we didn't either, that he could get up the big slides himself.  There was a bounce house with a small slide and only a few steps to get up, and he was able to do that with minimal help, but other slides he was struggling with.  Everyone helped haul him up until he figured it out and realized he could to it himself.  As a result, everyone did the great big slides all by themselves and with others, they bounced, they ran around wildly.  And Aunt Tysen bought everyone a blue raspberry slushie.  It was marvelous good fun.

Afterwards, we went to vision therapy, and then, because Kent is out of town at World of Concrete and I managed to get the house completely clean today while the children were at school and didn't want to mess it up by making dinner, we ate at a Chinese restaurant a block from the eye doctor's.  The kids ate well, then did their homework and piano practice without complaint.  Such a great day, and I get to go to bed with a clean house and happy children.

This was the small slide the kids started Brick on.
They were able to get him up fairly easily.

Look how fun!

This is the initial effort to get Brick to the top of the big slide.
Crew began just carrying him up.

He's starting to slip.

Crew has to put him down.

Now what to do?
They are almost at the top, but Crew can't carry him anymore.

Stuck mid-way.
Not all the way up, and not wanting to come down at all and lose what progress has been made.

Brandt comes down to try and help,
and Blythe is keeping a hand under Brick's bum.

No!
Don't come down!

They did finally manage to pull/push/wedge him to the top.
Brandt slid down with him.

Another go on a different slide.

He is sort of getting the idea about how to get up . . .

but still requiring some assistance.

I love Crew's face!

At the top!

Ready to slide.

And away!

Boy pile-up at the bottom.

Dang it!
I cut off Blythe's head.

Not that all of the above pictures have been fantastic, but they have at least been in focus and not grainy.  After this last picture, the camera suddenly stopped working.  It wasn't a dead battery, I hadn't touched anything untoward, it just quit working.  I would turn it on, go to focus, and it would turn off.  I tried any number of things without success, and then had to resort to the camera on the phone.  So the rest of the pictures aren't wonderful.  Grrrrr.

There is a lagoon designated for children four and under, and Brick and Lyla went in to jump together.  Lyla wanted to help Brick get up on a sea monster, but she couldn't get a good enough grip to actually hoist him up.

Trying really hard.
Brick is willing.

Lyla is down below where you can't see her,
still trying to get a handle on Brick.
In the end, after numerous attempts, she gave up.
Wisely.

I like this action shot of Blythe and Brick zooming down together.

Slush Puppie break.

Frustration that this cute picture of the big boys isn't in focus
because it is taken with the phone.

After all the previous effort to get Brick to the top of the big slide,
he figured out he could do it all by himself and climbed up all those steps.
Blythe stood by in case he needed help, but he didn't.
He super liked the fast zip down.

Lyla wasn't quick and cooperative enough to get in the picture with everyone else,
so she had one by herself.
