Swimming--Lots and Lots of Swimming

This year, as summer approached, I was anxious to have the children swim better.  We are in the pool so much during the hot months of summer, I wanted them to feel more comfortable, confident, and capable in the water.  So I signed them up for swimming lessons for the whole summer.  They began the first day you could start and today, eleven weeks later, was their last day.

I am happy to report, after all those lessons, the children can swim, especially Brandt.  Both kids have made excellent progress.  Brandt is doing the front crawl, with big arm motions and breathing.  He can jump off the diving board or the trampoline at Grandma Sue's house and swim over to the side.  He moves around in the water so nicely, doing dolphin dives, peanut butter and jelly arms (treading water), front and back floats, and is able to dive off the side as well as down into the water.  He is a swimmer boy!  It was been so fun to see him progress.  He feels good about is swimming.

Blythe, too, is something of a fish.  She likes to be in the pool without her floaties.  She dives off the side of the pool, jumps in from the diving board and the trampoline, will come up, and immediately go to a back float to catch her breath.  She is treading water and doggie paddling.  She likes to swim from person to person or to the side.  She is in the advanced pre-school level class which, for her age, is as high as she could go.  Next year, when she turns five and can move up in classes, I'm sure she will make rapid progress.

Here are lots of swimming lesson pictures.

This was at the beginning of the summer when Blythe needed help.
She can do it all on her own now.

Blythe had a very small cut on her forehead,
which had scabbed over by the time she insisted on having this bandaid.
It was there for three days.

The fact that Brandt will go down the water slide is another major breakthrough this year.

They were taken to deep water and then made to jump out.
Brandt wanted his teacher to tip the canoe over, but they just jumped.

In addition to daily morning swim lessons, we have been at the pool elsewhere too.  Swimming at Grandma Sue's, the Provo Veterans pool, the Scera pool in Orem, Seven Peaks, and next door to Grandma Sue at the Cox's house.  Here are a few more pictures.

Funny way of doing it.
