Extended Family Home Evening

I am a month behind on this post (I fell asleep three times last week with the laptop on my lap trying to finish; I've been awfully tired).  On July 9th, Kent's brother James and his wife Alisa, and Kent's sister Brenda and her husband Brent were in town, and we met at Big Springs Park for dinner and visiting with local Barri.  It was so nice to be with them, to talk and laugh.  We are super blessed to have most of our family members nearby, and we are always so pleased to be with those who aren't close by.  Dinner was good, the venue extremely pleasant, and the company was exceptional.

Brandt and Blythe were both super excited to be in the water until they actually felt the water.  It was cold!  But that didn't really stop them from getting their feet in--a bit.

Brandt is telling me that he is going to dismantle the dam in front of him.

Here it is.
He has his work cut out for him.

He went in a bit, moved one rock, called it good.

Gosh, Blythe is cute.

Brandt too.

In an effort to entertain the kids, I suggested that we play Pooh sticks.  In Winnie the Pooh, Pooh and Piglet play Pooh sticks, a game where you throw a stick from a bridge into a river and then rush to the other side of the bridge to see whose stick came out first.  We played once and then Brandt said, "Let's play Pooh rocks."    Since rocks don't float, we were looking to make the biggest splash with a rock.  That meant we needed big rocks.
Brandt is trying to pick up a big rock.

Check out that splash!

This is most of us who were there.
In the back: Alisa, Craig, Monica, Brenda, Brent, Michelle, Cammie, Lee, Kent, George
Sitting: James, Blythe, me, Brandt

In addition to dinner and Pooh rocks, Uncle Craig brought along a water bottle rocket launcher.  This was too, too cool.  A two liter soda bottle is filled about half full, placed atop a PVC pipe, the bottle is pressurized and then when fired, the water propels the bottle really, really high.  It also gets you pretty wet.  It was warm, however, so the getting wet didn't matter.

The wee lass is there too.

We women were watching too.

One of the bottle got stuck in a tree.
We made an effort to get it down.
Lee began by trying to throw a log at it.
Didn't work.
In fact, it had the potential to be one of those horrible stories that began with someone saying,
"Hey! Watch this!"

When that didn't work, James climbed the tree and threw a rock at it until he was able to knock it down.
I think we need to borrow the launcher and try it again.

I have found several more pictures from my father-in-law.
Must include them.

I'm pretty sure Blythe is regaling me with a very detailed story.
