A Week

In an effort to keep us a bit more intellectually stimulated, and since I have decided not to send Brandt to pre-school (I'm not ready to have him gone or to have a schedule, and he likely wouldn't go by himself anyway), I am implementing a new strategy focused on the alphabet.  Each week will be devoted to a letter.  During the week we will do several different activities: we will identify things around the house that begin with the letter, we will do a craft project of some sort, we will have a field trip, and we will have a dinner of foods that begin with the letter.

Thus far, Brandt has been very enthusiastic.  We stuck words on "art," the "alarm clock," and an "axle," as well as others, and we looked up some pictures of other A words that we couldn't find in the house, like "anteater," "ambulance," and "alligator" (Brandt selecting a picture of an alligator trying to get into someone's house).

Today, after going to the library for story time, we walked (or rather hiked) up to Rock Canyon Park to play.  We discovered many acorns, a prefect find for A week.
Tomorrow we are going to do "art" on the wall (butcher paper and water based paint), Friday we are making a trip to the "art museum," and Saturday we will have a dinner of angel hair pasta with Asiago cheese, artichokes, asparagus, apples, almonds, and angel food cake with apricot sauce.  Perhaps we'll snack on animal crackers, ants on a log, and Almond Joy.
