Pippin Techie

Brandt has been a stalwart on the tech crew this year. He’s been on sound for all but one production, and the only reason he didn’t do that one was because he was doing another at the same time. He’s been sound for assemblies, concerts, and this week, for the second school musical Pippin. This evening, Kent and I went to see the performance and hear Brandt’s work in action. We are delighted at how responsible Brandt has been all year and the new group of friends he has made as he has worked with everyone. He really likes Mr. Avila, the drama teacher, and feeling like he is in charge of something.

On a humorous note, neither Kent nor I had seen Pippin so we asked what it was about. Even though he had seen the show multiple times during rehearsals, when I asked he said, “I don’t know. It’s weird. It’s kind of about a man who lives lots of different lives.” When I probed for more detail, there wasn’t much forthcoming. So tonight, at intermission, I turned to Kent and said, “I’m not surprised Brandt couldn’t tell us what this was about.” It was all a bit murky, symbolic of our innate need to find fulfillment and meaning in life. I can think of many funner musicals they could have performed, but the actors were all very enthusiastic and seemed to have a great time. It was closing night and they had all of the tech crew come up and be applauded.  They also received a big bag of treats. Brandt said it was the first time that any production had the entire tech crew on stage, rather than just one person to represent them all. How exciting! Hoorah for well-tech-supported productions.
