A First Class Scout

This evening we had a court of honor for the 11-year-old scouts.  I am pleased and excited to report that Brandt received his Second Class and First Class Scout ranks.  We've been working hard to finish up his last few requirements, including doing a service project yesterday to finish up the hours, and he went this afternoon to the board of review.  He passed, and so was awarded this evening.  Kent gave a really thoughtful "scout master minute" talk about tools, relating their usefulness to the usefulness of the priesthood the boys will soon get.  The Primary hopes that boys can get through First Class before they turn twelve, and Brandt just squeaked by, having turned twelve on Friday.

The next three pictures are of Brandt doing the three parts of the troop cheer.
They are the Tough Tofu Turtles.

Tough!

Tofu! (they are eating a small piece of tofu)

Turtles (the boys push out the heads like a turtle sticking its head out of its shell)

Brandt is being given his patches and pins,
and rather than pining them on me,
he just handed the cards to me and walked away.
Such a touching and tender moment.
