Demolition Derby

How crazy is a demolition derby? Guys in cars deliberately ramming into each other with the idea of destroying the other vehicle.  It's really silly.  And really, really fun!  At least for those who are spectators.  We went this year to the Demolition Derby at the Utah County Fair.  After a touching tribute to a man fighting cancer and our troops fighting overseas, a fly over by a WWII plane from Hill Air Force Base, and the singing of the national anthem, all Yellowstone broke loose with vehicle smashing.  It was wild!  I was laughing and crying, shrieking hysterically, and wondering what on earth would convince someone to climb into a car that was going to be deliberately driven into.  Wheels came off, radiators spewed, tires shredded, but the cars drove on, ramming away.  It was loud and wild and we all loved it!  Brandt especially thought it was fantastic.  We stayed for three heats (we were up so late last night, we only lasted until about 9:00pm), and in all three a car was flipped by another and both wound up in a pile.  Fire broke out under two of them, and I understood why there were firemen in full gear surrounding the arena with fire extinguishers in hand.  Fortunately, no one was hurt.  Well, my guess is that everyone hurt by the end of the evening, but no one was carted off to the hospital.  I would have liked to have stayed longer, and next year will.  I'm determined.  It was such a fun thing to do as a family.  You know, a whole recreational activity!

Forklift work going on in the arena as we pause to take a picture.

The car on the concrete barrier was doing really well until he ended up there.

The between heat crew picking up bits of car debris from the area.

Because of the 43 car and all the firemen, it's hard to tell that the blue 24 car is
ON TOP OF the car underneath.
All four wheels are off the ground!
Again, both drivers climbed out.

The forklift had to assist with this one, too.

And then a bunch of guys just flipped over the other one manually.

Blown radiator.
