Science Palooza 2017

Today was the Science Palooza!  We love the Science Palooza.  They did things a bit differently this year, and we didn't love all the changes, but the exhibit hall was still a major part of the activity, and we did love that.  There is a large gym at the rec center that is always filled with groups from universities or organizations in the area who have demonstrations or hands-on activities or experiments that the kids can do.  It's fascinating and fun and we spent most of our time there.  Here are some pictures.  In addition to the activities pictured, we felt animal skins, looked at space rocks, made salt patterns with sound waves, ate flash frozen ice cream made with liquid nitrogen, could have made slime but thankfully didn't, and were reminded about good dental hygiene.

A group was making fog and blowing smoke rings.

The kids were able to do robotics.

Brandt did flight simulation.

Blythe identified a part of your body that keeps growing throughout your life (hair),
and affixed it to a paper body.

There were three different "classes" you could attend, but we only did one.  The format was different than in years past, and rather than just going into one and moving along at your own pace, they had the group doing things all together.  The kids did a space one where they did physical training to get in shape to go to Mars, made balloon rockets, and looked at constellations.  The other classes were Egyptian and ocean related, as you can tell from the cut-outs.  All in all, it was a fun Saturday activity.
