Field Trip Friday #55--Loveland Living Planet Aquarium

Blythe has been studying penguins in school.  She's learned all about lots of different kinds of penguins--what they eat, where they live, how big they are--and has had to complete a penguin project of her own, selecting a penguin, making a poster with a picture and facts, and then presenting her poster to the class.  I mentioned that there are penguins at the aquarium in Draper and Blythe (and Brandt too) has been desperate to go see them.  What a fantastic Field Trip Friday activity!

The aquarium reopened two years ago, and we haven't been up to see it in its new incarnation.  I was very impressed with how nicely it's arranged.  We saw all sorts of wonderful creatures, including the gentoo penguins.  We saw lots of fish, an otter, sharks, giant river fish, turtles, sting rays, and frogs.  We also saw a fascinating 4D movie about the Galapagos Islands, wherein we were shot with air and water, our seats vibrated, and the creatures swam/flew/crawled out the screen at us.  So exciting!  It was a great field trip we all really enjoyed.

Cute kids.
Cute birds.

Brandt is standing on an orca.
I cropped the picture so you can't see the orca or the little girl who was crawling around below Brandt.

Those are otters in front of the children.

We are standing next to the newt habitat and listening to an aquarium worker tells us all about newts.
They are weird!

We saw real live frogs that were the colors of these faux frogs.
Amazing!

Photo bomb!
