Funny Children

For some time, when it came time to say a prayer, particularly at mealtimes, the children would fight over who got to say it.  There would be a verbal tussle, then one or the other of them would begin shouting a prayer while the other shrieked in displeasure.  So last month we finally wised up and told the children we would alternate days praying; one day would be the girls, the next day would be the boys.  I had put up a new whiteboard calendar on the wall by the kitchen table which everyone can see, and so I put BR and BL (for Brandt and Blythe) on alternate days.

Our problem has been solved.  In the morning, as we are about to begin breakfast, we can consult the calender and know whose day it is to pray.  It has been an easy solution to what had become a very unpleasant situation.

Yesterday was a BR day.  At dinner, Brandt said, "It is my turn to pray," and then he launched right in.  Funny thing was, he sang the whole prayer.  He wasn't praying to any distinguishable tune, but he certainly made it all melodic.  And in the spirit of the thing, we all sang "Amen!" at the end.  In Doctrine and Covenants, section 25, verse 12 it says, "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads."  I can only assume that blessings will be answered upon Brandt's head.
