We Take The Train

UTA has completed the Front Runner train line from Provo to Salt Lake.  We couldn't resist the opportunity to ride, so we planned a trip to see the lights at Temple Square.  We went with the DeMars all and had a great time (mostly).  Last year when we went to see the lights, we chose perhaps the coldest day of the month.  It was about 12 degrees as we were walking around.  There were very few people, but it was uncomfortable.  This year, it was warmer according to the thermometer, but it rained so we were all get wet. Also, we chose to go on the same weekend as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert, and we were there in between the two performances of the evening, so we were wandering around with 40,000 or so other people.  At least, that's what it felt like.  There were lots and lots and lots of people.  We went to grab dinner at the City Creek food court, and it was packed too.  Lines were long and the children were impatient (some of us parents got that way too).  They all ate quickly and were then running amok.  It was hard to keep small people contained.

We walked around in the rain, then waited around in the rain at the train station.  The trains only run once an hour, so we wanted to make sure we didn't miss the train, but we were at the station for about half an hour with little to do.  While the waiting was not so swell, the actual train ride was wonderful.  The kids loved it.  It was hard for them to sit still, but the whole point of taking the train was so that they wouldn't have to sit still.  We will definitely take the train again, during the day, when we are not in a rush to get home for bed.

Makenna, Ava, and Blythe

Blake, Guy, Mikayla, Sue

Eugene, Collin, Sharae

Tysen, Griffin, Crew, Christopher, Lyla

Luke, Brandt, Katherine, Kent

Lyla wandered up and down the aisle making friends with our fellow riders.
She tried to steal their phones, or gloves, or canes.
She's so darling, she's hard to resist.

This is Lyla lying in the aisle.
She got pooped (or poofed as the kids say) and just gave us.

Ornaments made of candy in the windows of City Creek.
Very elaborate!

Here is a picture of the rain raining down on us.
What fun!

Blythe on Blake's shoulders, Makenna, Ava, Brandt, Luke, Crew, Griffin, Lyla in the stroller.
Crew is without a coat and Lyla is throwing off her sock.
Neither of them would keep warm stuff on.
It looks like Brandt is flashing a gangster sign.

On the way home, engrossed in a video on the phone.
