Sheep Shearing

Yesterday we went to see Delora's sheep being sheared.  Kent was familiar with sheep shearing as Grandpa Droubay had a large flock.  The children and I, however, had not, and we found the whole process fantastic.  In fact, to quote Brandt, "It was awesome!"  The shearer's name is Will and he hails from Australia.  He was very talkative and willing to not only answer our questions, but had no problem with the children being pretty close by.  Seeing them almost made me want to get a few sheep of our own.  Almost.

In addition to the excitement with the sheep, there was also a guinea fowl in Delora's yard.  It appeared the day before and hung around in her pasture.  She called animal control to come collect it, but when the officer arrived, the guinea fowl was nowhere to be found.  I saw the fowl towards the front yard, and Delora called animal control to return.  Brandt was so excited the officer was coming, and then it turned out he had gone home at 4:00 (only about ten minutes earlier).

Wild guinea fowl.
These are not native to Utah, so it must have escaped from someone's yard.

Will shearing Muffin.
Doesn't she look like she's enjoying it?

Intently watching the action.

This is Minnie Pearl being difficult while Mary Wilma is trying to make a break.
Oddly enough, the sheep didn't seem particularly thrilled to be having a hair cut.

Eugene and Kent preventing Mary Wilma from escaping.
Perhaps not her best side.

When not watching shearing, the children ran around and played in the yard.
