Quackers

It is Q week.  Actually, last week was Q week, but I was very busy and not feeling particularly inspired with Q ideas, so nothing happened.  I thought we could have a Q day and move on to R.  Then a marvelous coincidence.  BYU has redone a stream along the south side of campus and as part of the inaugural festivities, various activities are planned for the week.  Tonight a rubber quacker race.  That's right.  Quakers.  For only a dollar, you could purchase a rubber duck, decorate it, and let is "swim" along the stream.

So for family home evening, we went to float quackers.  It was a lovely evening, the children were happy to be outside, and although they were both late getting to bed, it was worth it.  Plus, we were able to buy a special flavor of BYU ice cream (Stream & Trail) for only fifty cents a tub.

How's that for a Q week activity?

Decorating quakers.
Brandt is using black and Blythe is using purple.
Surprise!

Launching the ducks at the beginning of the stream.

Our ducks beginning their swim.

Blythe was jumping up and down and yelling,
"Go duckie! Go duckie!"
The duck did not really seem to respond to her encouragement.

These are Blythe pictures.
Kent has a nice tush.

Enjoying the ice cream.

Our ducks.
Kent's with a green  Chinese character on its back.
Brandt's with a black head.
Katherine's with red stripes.
Blythe's all covered in purple.

In an unrelated issue, I have been pointing out "sure signs of spring" to the children as we have seen them.  If we pass flowers poking up through the wet soil or those in bloom, trees beginning to bud or flower, or birds out and about, I have said, "Look! It's a sure sign of spring."  Yesterday we passed a tree in flower and Brandt said, "Look Mom!  A sure sign of spring!"  Here are two we saw tonight.
