Blythe's Ninth Birthday

We woke up this morning with a new nine year old at our house.  I don't know how it happened, but suddenly, Blythe was nine.  Blythe is just getting more and more lovely as she gets older.  She remains as happy as her name implies, always humming or singing a little something under her breath.  She is bright, reading really well and enjoying independent reading.  She is sassy and dramatic which means she and I mix it up all the time, but she is also maturing and is easier to talk to and reason with.  She can hold her own in an argument, clearly outlining her position and offering supporting evidence as to why whatever should be as she desires.  She is very funny, very social, and ALWAYS ready for a party.  She's willing to plan and be in charge, and can organize very well.  She likes to write things down, making lists of how an activity should proceed.  She is interesting, artistic, and creative, and is kind to people smaller than her.  She likes to be with friends, cousins, and Brandt, ride her bike, and do her art.  She is getting more obedient and helpful.  She likes to be girly, is taking an interest in doing her hair, wearing makeup (not yet, she's still too young), and is particular about what she wears.  She has taken to wearing five or six hair-bobs around her wrist all the time, "just in case."  She still loves her stuffed animals, her blue kiki, and sleeping with a mountain of pillows and blankets behind her.  She likes to watch TV, too, sometimes for hours on end.  She is confident when speaking to adults, and is rather charming.  She's got several women in the ward enchanted with her, but who can be blamed?  Our Blythe really is a delight.

For her birthday party this year, Blythe wanted to have boys and girls, and initially said she wanted a Star Wars/Princess/Swimming Party, just so everyone would feel great about coming.  I managed to convince her that a swimming party was sufficient, and that if we added in a couple of easy games and some cake and ice cream, it would be a smashing good time.  She agreed, and we invited and planned last week.  We got her balloons, let her pick what we had to breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and swam in the afternoon with friends.  Brandt was away at 5th Grade camp, so he wasn't there, but Blythe was pleased that we were carrying on without him.  He wanted us to save him cake, which we didn't do.

Here Blythe is selecting which ribbon she wants on her balloons,
and making sure the grocery worker does it all right.

The silly boys who came to the party:
Asher Runia, Everett Bushman, Evan Runia, and Grant Seamons
For some reason, I didn't get a similar picture of the girls.

Blythe wanted a vanilla cake with blue frosting.
The frosting looks green in this picture, but it was a nice shade of blue.

Blythe opened presents before we had cake and ice cream and after games,
but not presents from us.
She had to wait until the evening, after Kent got home.
We went to Pizza Pie Cafe for dinner (Blythe's choice, of course).
Blythe had four pieces of the Oreo dessert pizza.
Happy birthday to our best Blythe!
