Tender Hearts

Tonight I got a wonderful call from our neighbor, Gregg Pugmire.  He wanted to share an experience his daughter, Taylor, had had yesterday at church that involved Blythe.  Taylor, who just graduated from high school in May, has been Blythe's primary teacher for the summer.  Yesterday was her last day as she will begin BYU soon, and she was teaching her final lesson.  She has been enjoying her calling, but when Gregg came out of priesthood at the end of our meeting block, he found her sitting on the couch in the foyer sobbing.  His first thought was that she had had an awful class time, that the children had been bad, and she was unhappy about how things came to an end.

In fact, it was just the opposite.  The lesson had gone well, and something Blythe did was particularly touching to her.  The lesson was "Jesus Christ wants us to love everyone," and the kids each colored a little button they were to give to someone they loved.  Blythe colored hers and then gave it to Taylor, saying, "I want you to have this."

Taylor was incredibly touched.  She has had a wonderful experience teaching Primary, her first "real" calling as an adult.  Until this calling, she had only gone to church and been in lessons where she was taught, but only recently has she been required to prepare and teach lessons herself.  Blythe's primary class is also somewhat challenging, with several strong little people with big spirits.  Blythe's small gesture meant a great deal to Taylor and she was crying happy tears for the experience, as well as sad tears that she is done with Primary for the moment.  She wore the button around all day yesterday and then pasted it into her journal.

It was wonderful for us to hear about Blythe's small act of kindness, and how much it meant to Taylor.  I hope she continues to love and give as she gets older and has more opportunities to follow the example of Jesus Christ.
