Christmas Pie Making

Years ago, with my mom and Mikayla, I began making pies to give to special people at Christmas.  Those who make the list are our home and visiting teaching people (those who we go to and those who come to us), plus a few extras.  A couple of years ago, other family members began to join us, and now, it's become a Christmas tradition with lots of people making lots of pie.

This year, we outdid ourselves.  In a ridiculous effort, we made 51 pies.  That's right.  More than four dozen pies.  SO. MANY. PIES.  We met at Christopher and Tysen's house, Eugene and his kids came, and we assembled lots and lots and lots of apple pies.  We'd cleaned out Granny Smith apples at Macey's, came with laundry baskets full of ingredients and equipment, and over six hours made and rolled dough, peeled and cut apples, sugar and cinnamon-ed, and tried to figure out where we were going to put all those pies.  We had to begin delivery on the way home because the eighteen pies we made for us were not going to fit in the freezer.  It was exhausting, but so great to be together, talking and laughing, letting the kids help when they felt like it, and play when they didn't.  It's one of our favorite days of the Christmas season.

There should have been a picture of all the finished pies, but there wasn't any place where 51 pies would fit all at the same time.  And we should have pictures of more of the little people helping, but they were in and out and we were trying to work fast and efficiently.
