A Saturday in Spain

When Kent and I initially spoke about going to Spain and what we would do, Kent said he wanted us to have a relaxing trip.  He didn't really want to run around, dragging the children to see things they didn't really care about.  I agreed that we would take it easy.  Today was one of those days.  We discovered there is a train ride that goes around Benalmadena, making four stops, one of which was quite close to where we were staying.  The children, but Brandt especially, were keen to ride the train.  After breakfast, we walked up to the stop and waited.  We were super excited as the train approached, and then our spirits fell as we saw it was completely full.  Actually, there were two places, but we were four.  We walked sadly away.

Along our way, there is a Buddha statue.  Everyone wanted a picture, everyone wanted to take it, and we had a rare fight over who got the camera and who got to pose.  In the first picture Blythe is mad because she wants the camera, in the next, both children were having a fit off camera as Kent took the picture, and in the last, Brandt is crying into Kent's arm because he wanted the camera.  What fun!

Since we couldn't take the train, we went back to the resort.  We swam, we had lunch, and was sat in the sun.  In the afternoon, we walked hopefully up the hill to catch the train again, and this time we were in luck.  The train was practically empty and we were able to ride around Benalmadena. It was super windy, but in the train, it didn't matter.  At each stop, Brandt called "All aboard!"  He really wanted to sit up with the driver, but instead we sat in the very front car on the very front seat.

In the center of all the roundabouts, there are interesting statues and other things.
I particularly liked this one.
All those silver things are pinwheels which were turning furiously today.

A view from one of our stops.
As you can see from the trees, the wind was ferocious.

A very old lookout tower along the shore.
We walked all the way around this looking for the door that let you in.
Couldn't find one.
I'm not sure how lookouts actually got in to do their job.

This evening, we went to Andree's apartment for dinner.  The apartment complex where she stays has a lovely garden surrounding the building, as well as a pool and some swings.  The children were delighted to run around while we made dinner and talked, and it was nice to be "in the country" as Andree calls it.  The country is actually in the middle of the city, but the apartments are walled, so it does feel somewhat set apart.

After dinner, we returned to our resort for stories and bed.  Bedtime is finally getting a little easier.  The children aren't fighting quite so much.  It is getting easier, but not earlier yet.  It was close to ten before the children were both asleep, but fortunately we aren't in a rush to get anywhere in the mornings, so if we are in bed late, it's okay.
