A Trip to the Fire Station

Kent was recently installed as the new Wolf leader in cub scouts in our ward.  Brandt is in the wolf den and so we were all excited that Kent would be his leader.  Today for their activity we went to our local fire station (just across the street from our ward boundaries) to learn about fire prevention.  We took three scouts from the den as well as the Oylers, our across the street neighbors, and me and Blythe.  I have been being the second needed adult as Kent has held meetings because he doesn't have anyone to help him yet.  We arrived, were taken out to the bays where the trucks are, and then they got a call.  We quickly exited and watched them pull away.

We were hopeful that they wouldn't be too long and there is a park right behind the fire station, so we sat on the grass and talked for a bit about fire prevention and then let everyone run around while we waited.  That paid off.  The firemen returned after about half an hour and we were able to go back in and have our tour/talk as well as climb around the cool trucks.  Engineer Brian Cottam told us we shouldn't play with matches or lighters, we shouldn't try to be heroes if our house catches on fire but just to get out as quickly as possible, and then showed us all the cool equipment in the fire truck.  It was a marvelous activity.

Blythe would not come to have her picture, so she and I had to be photographed separately.
