Before and After

We have been working super hard in the yard.  We've mostly been pulling things out--all the Oregon grape in the front and a juniper bush in the back--and trimming lots and lots.  The above is a picture of the beds around the front of the house, along the garage and front porch.

Christopher was super to help us remove all the bushes on two separate Saturdays.  While he and Kent manly removed shrubs, his children and ours ran around in a wild pack making mischief of one kind and another.  I know the children had a good time, but I'm not sure the same can be said of the men.  If not exactly "fun," it was certainly tremendously satisfying to see the bushes come out.

Here are the after shots.  I have been amazed at how much better I like the front of the house without the bushes.  How can it look better with nothing than with something?  I am excited to get our landscape design and begin working on putting things in rather than just tearing out.

And speaking of how much I like the yard, this is our magnolia tree in full bloom.  How magnificent is that pink tree?!  It was, however, a fleeting beauty.  This was the tree on Saturday and today, Monday, the leaves are all brown and falling off, having been chilled with the change in weather.  Oh well.  It was good--really, really good--while it lasted.
