Scrub Sprouts

Today for cubs, Kent and his den were finishing up Camp Fire Fun (or something).  They were supposed to have a campfire activity, complete with fire, songs, and a treat roasted over the fire.  As it is winter and not the time to sit around a fire at night, he fudged a bit and had a quasi campfire thing in the vacant lot across the street.  He lit some charcoal briquettes, they all sang "On Top of Old Smokey" and "My Darling Clementine," told a couple of silly stories, then lit a Christmas tree on fire.  It flared up and put out a lot of heat as they always do, and was quickly consumed.  Then he passed out skewers and marshmallows and had the boys roast marshmallows over the briquettes.  While that all sounds super silly, the boys loved it.  Especially the tree burning.  I took a couple of pictures when I went over to watch the fire.  Any cub scout activity is a success if there is fire and something to eat.

Sam and Brandt joined Kent, Jake Thornock and his daughter Maggie, Luke, Evan, Grandt, Garrison, Bryce, and Everett

The "fire"
No one's marshmallows burned.

The aftermath of the burned tree.
I was so engrossed in the actual burning I forgot to take a picture.
I love the way the smoke is blowing off the blackened trunk.
